Is Cambridge a new cure for Type 2 Diabetes?

Last night there was a news report on a new study that claims to have found a possible cure for type 2 diabetes. Type 2 is a lifestyle issue for the majority of sufferers and typically people do not want to make the changes necessary to eliminate it so they turn to pharmaceuticals. I've been on those in the past and for me it was not an option. They made me very sick and did little to bring my blood sugar under control. I was expecting to hear of a new pill, but was I surprised!

Type 2 diabetes is usually thought of as a blood sugar problem when in fact it is an insulin problem. With type 1 or juvenile diabetes the body is either not producing enough insulin to handle the sugar in the system or none at all due to a malfunctioning pancreas. Insulin supplementation is necessary as diet is not the issue. With type 2 the person IS producing insulin, and sometimes a LOT of insulin that the body can't use. It is related to diet and lack of exercise. Over feeding of processed foods and lack of exercise causes the cells to become resistant to insulin which is the key that unlocks the cells to allow sugar in or release for energy use. Because of this the sugar spills over in to the blood creating all sorts of problems with cholesterol, vascular disease, diabetes etc. The genetic tendency in my opinion has been greatly overemphasized as the cause. The tendency may be inherited, but in reality what is usually inherited is bad lifestyle habits in diet and activity levels. We tend to adopt the same cooking and eating that we grew up with and if your family ate unhealthily and lived a sedentary life it is likely you will continue on that way too and then teach the same to your children. This is why obesity also tends to "run" in families.

So the big news? It turns out the research that was done involved putting type 2 diabetic people on a 600 calorie a day diet consisting of nutrient dense low calorie foods along with diet nutrition shakes for 2 months. Much to their surprise at the end of 2 month the subjects no longer showed any signs of diabetes! Imagine that?

In the 11 years I have been a Cambridge Diet Consultant I have seen diabetics that were taking up to 7 insulin injections a day either greatly reduce the amount of insulin needed or be off of it by the end of their second month SSing. Those on oral meds are usually successful at getting off of them by the end of their first month SSing. These are amazingly consistent results I have seen over and over. Exercise is critically important for the change to be a permanent one and fortunately most Cambridge users naturally increase their activity level as their health improves and energy returns to their minds and bodies. It's a winning combination!

So I guess we can now claim Cambridge to be a way to overcome diabetes, something we have known for years and years but were not able to say officially until now that the medical field has publicly made this research available to mainstream media. Like most discoveries in the natural health field that are now becoming mainstream, perhaps we can now add our much loved Cambridge to the list of proven healthy alternatives to health and healing.
